7. Preparing a Source Project for Best Results

Some preparation work in the source project can make the converter easier to use and the output easier to validate. This is not always required, but it is often helpful.

  1. Know which folder is the real source root and which files are truly active in the project.
  1. Be aware of duplicated unit names or old backup copies inside the source tree.
  1. Understand any database, media, or file-path dependencies that the converted application will need at runtime.
  1. Keep note of major workflows that must be validated after conversion, such as startup, scheduling, playback, database edits, dialogs, and reporting.
  1. If possible, have the original VCL application available for side-by-side behavior comparison.

The converter can do a great deal, but it is still easier to use when the operator knows which source files matter and which business workflows are critical.
